Loksatta enables their Print Editions through Mediology DigitalEdition

Loksatta, Part of the Indian Express Group and a leading international Marathi News daily took their ePapers online using Mediology DigitalEdition.

Loksatta ePaper

The DigitalEdition platform with its self-publishing and do it yourself capabilities, real-time conversion, global distribution and notifications made it easy and scalable for Loksatta to integrate.

Speedy Integration and Execution
On 23rd Jan 2011, the Management at Loksatta decided that they wanted to take their editions online for the consumers’ worldwide, and have it white-labelled on their domain, viz epaper.loksatta.com by the 26th January 2011, the Republic Day of India. The Mediology DigitalEdition platform and the experience Mediology had of enabling such print editions came to the fore to ensure that the team at Loksatta could easily accomplish their timelines. Not only did the team enable the publishing platform, but the white-labelled format integrated in the site was ready by the 25th Jan, 2011 itself (when the first ePaper was published).

Re-use your pre-existing content
The DigitalEdition engine takes the prepress content and enables an easy to use, highly interactive Web Based interface where the content can be uploaded for conversion (a process we call transweaving) and distribution to a global cache.

Global Distribution enables fast delivery
A majority of the readers of Loksatta are expats who are based all over the world. Traffic split indicates a major chunk of traffic comes from US, Europe and Australia. Since Mediology DigitalEdition is a cloud based solution, it effectively ensured that the content distribution, post transweaving of the prepress files, was enabled for global caching. This improved the user-experience, enabled real-time gratification and ensured that the visitors returned day after day to read the current edition of Loksatta.

Reader Perspective
As Asmita Wadkar, a regular reader of the ePaper version, who is based in Singapore, told us “The Loksatta e-paper is excellent. It has added facilities like news clip sharing / use of keyboard to select page and zoom-in/ zoom-out, use of full screen after zoom-in / very clean and user friendly layout. I liked it. I now spend more time on the ePaper of Loksatta then I do on the website”.

Deepak Damle from the Indian Express Group who led the entire integration and roll out puts it as below:
“We engaged with Mediology to enable our ePaper platform on our website. It was an easy and effortless integration, on our own domain http://epaper.loksatta.com. Within 48 hours we were up and running on their platform and were able to meet our objective to offer our readers our online print edition on the 26th of Jan 2011. Since then the ePaper has seen lot of traction and our readers love the natural paper-like look and feel of the ePaper. The subscription features, coupled with clip sharing have made the experience viral and complete our offering. The most satisfying part is that we are in full control of the publishing process and get our editions live on our own. We plan to roll out further editions and supplements on Mediology DigitalEdition in the days to come”
